U-TURN Podcast receives IABC's highest honor

SAN ANTONIO, TX — The inaugural season of USAA's U-TURN Podcast, co-produced and -conceived by award-winning branding firm Toolbox Studios, Inc., received the communication industry's highest honor: The IABC Gold Quill Award of Merit 2008, given by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). According to their Web site, the communication awards "represent the highest level of professional acknowledgment within business communication today."

USAA's U-TURN Podcast was created as an audio companion to the highly successful U-TURN Magazine. The two offerings, combined with a host of online games, contests and social networking services, connect and educate USAA's high-school-aged members with youth-produced stories about money management, college preparation, driving, and other important teen issues. The podcast is distributed free via syndicated download using podcasting clients such as podcast Apple’s iTunes Music Store, Microsoft's Zune Marketplace, and Doppler. Last year the U-TURN Podcast was ranked on iTunes' top ten downloaded educational podcasts.

Golden Quill Awards applicants represent the entire spectrum of business communicators, from large corporations like PepsiCo to small non-profits in developing countries. Entries are judged on a variety of factors including technical excellence, creativity and innovation, effectiveness in identifying and responding to an institutional and community’s needs, the delivery of measurable outcomes, and the overall success of the project.
