Toolbox expands creative team with addition of new designer

Former architect brings blend of form and function

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Toolbox Studios, an award-winning communication design firm, added Steven Gonzalez to its creative team this week. As Toolbox's newest designer, Gonzalez will support the creative team by proffering design ideas and concepts that span multiple channels and mediums.

Gonzalez joins Toolbox after a successful career change from architect to designer. A graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio College of Architecture, Gonzalez participated in the design of several buildings around San Antonio's vibrant Blue Star contemporary art and entertainment district. An elective graphic design course offered during Gonzalez's senior year sparked a hidden talent that came to fruition during an internship with Toolbox earlier this year. Toolbox's Creative Director, Paul Soupiset, remarked, "In a short amount of time Steven has introduced a hands-on, highly tactile design ethic to our print and new media channels. He's challenged our thinking about sustainability issues, and has quickly become a rising star in the local design scene."

Gonzalez attributes his success in design to the foundation he built while in architecture school. "The principles for designing spaces are very similar to the principles that govern communications design," said Gonzalez. "At Toolbox, I have been given opportunities to directly apply and expand on my training, which helped me grow tremendously as a designer."
