Toolbox hires Marketing Communications Director
SAN ANTONIO, TX – Toolbox Studios announced today that John Navarrete has joined Toolbox as Marketing Communications Director, a new position for the award-winning, San Antonio-based communication design firm. Navarrete will oversee Toolbox’s marketing, PR and branding initiatives in an effort to increase awareness of the company’s services in the marketplace.
“John’s depth of experience with cross-channel branding and marketing strategy adds tremendous value to the communications solutions we provide our clients,” said Rob Simons, Toolbox President.
Prior to accepting the position, Navarrete consulted for Simons and his management team for five months, conducting a comprehensive assessment of the company’s strengths, weaknesses and growth opportunities. “The time spent with Toolbox’s management team, employees and clients inspired me,” said Navarrete. “Toolbox is an innovative, energetic organization with incredibly talented, thoughtful and dedicated employees. I am honored to join the team and advance the company’s evolution.”
As Marcomm Director, Navarrete will lead a major rebranding effort for Toolbox in the second quarter, 2006. He will manage the redesign of Toolbox’s identity elements and sales materials, including the company Web site and portfolio. He is also tasked with building a public relations program for Toolbox and managing company events.
“We’ve set some very ambitious objectives for the Toolbox brand,” said Paul Soupiset, Creative Director and Senior Designer. “John immediately added a deeper strategic component to the mix that will benefit both our clients and our organization. As an outside consultant, John gained a deep understanding of our existing brand and the whole creative ethos here; now as a part of the senior creative management team he’s helping us reshape and articulate Toolbox nationally.”
Originally from Washington, DC, Navarrete’s career spans 15 years, serving in the roles of designer, art director, marketing specialist, brand manager, marketing communications director and consultant to government, non-profits, small businesses, academic institutions and Fortune 500 management teams. At Toolbox, he will leverage his branding and program management experience to build meaningful internal and external lines of communications.
“At a company like Toolbox, success stories are easy to find. One of my priorities is to make sure that these successes are communicated to the right audiences and generating buzz,” said Navarrete.
Navarrete brings corporate discipline, entrepreneurial acumen and project management abilities to Toolbox. Most recently, he managed multi-channel marketing campaigns for San Antonio-based, financial giant USAA. Prior to USAA, Navarrete headed Nimble Communications, LLC, a strategic communications consultancy providing expertise to in-house marketing, advertising and public relations staff on the East coast.
In northern Virginia, Navarrete served as vice president and Corporate Marketing Communications Director for Alion Science and Technology Corporation. At Alion, Navarrete led the 1,700-person company through a rebrand and managed the communications for an employee stock option plan (ESOP) campaign which raised $26M and enabled the employees to become owners of the company. Earlier in his career, Navarrete founded Invictus Design, a graphics design agency serving government and private sector companies in Washington, DC.
“In the brief time that he has been here, John has already made significant contributions to Toolbox’s success,” said Stan McElrath, Managing Creative Director. “Frankly, I can’t wait to see what he does next.”
